Living with light incontinence: active days, quiet nights

A few drops when laughing, coughing, running. It is very common, it is managed with the right product and a few habits, and it stops neither sport, nor work, nor travel.

What we are talking about

Light incontinence means small leaks on effort (laughing, coughing, sneezing, sport, lifting) or a sudden urge that will not wait. It very often affects women after pregnancy and around menopause, and men after prostate surgery. It can also be temporary, after a urinary infection or fatigue.

It is neither inevitable nor shameful: it is a muscle, the pelvic floor, and a bladder that need a little attention. We guide towards the right product and good habits, never towards a diagnosis: if leaks appear suddenly, with pain or blood, talk to a doctor.

Three levels, three products

A few drops: a thin bladder pad, 28 cm long, that slips into usual underwear. It captures liquid in seconds and neutralises odour, which a sanitary pad does not: that one is made for a slow flow, not a gush.

A small gush or a sudden urge: a longer pad, 37 cm long, with an acquisition layer that absorbs fast. For men, the Male Guard pad follows the anatomy and sits in close-fitting briefs.

A full leak, mostly at night: Flexi absorbent underwear, worn like underwear, S to 3XL, with absorption that lasts until morning. And for those who need it, the Combi brief with tabs goes up to 4XL.

Active days, quiet nights

By day, a thin pad changed every three to four hours, even if it seems barely used: moisture, not quantity, irritates the skin. A discreet bag with two spare pads and a small sachet for the used one is enough for work, sport or travel.

At night, a long “All Night” pad or absorbent underwear: sleep is better when you do not wake up to check. The discovery kit lets you test two levels and two sizes at home before choosing.

Four habits that help

Drink normally: cutting water concentrates urine, irritates the bladder and increases urges. Rather reduce coffee, strong tea and alcohol late in the day.

Train the pelvic floor: a few minutes a day of contractions (as if holding back wind), seated or standing, without holding your breath. A physiotherapist or midwife can show the movement in one session.

Train the bladder: go to the toilet at set times, then gradually stretch by fifteen minutes. Change on time: a saturated pad leaks, smells and damages the skin.

FAQ

Is a sanitary pad not enough?

No. It is designed for a slow, light flow. Urine arrives all at once: an incontinence pad absorbs it in seconds, holds it under pressure and neutralises odour.

Should I drink less?

No. Drinking less concentrates urine, irritates the bladder and increases urges. Rather reduce coffee, strong tea and alcohol in the evening.

Does it show under clothes?

A thin 28 cm long pad shows no more than a sanitary pad. Flexi pants look like cotton underwear and are worn under jeans.
